Space

In the 30 years since VEGA’s first contract in the Space market, many things have changed. With 300 highly qualified and experienced staff working on Space programmes throughout Europe and beyond, VEGA is fully involved in the change process. 30 years ago, Europe was building and launching its first telecommunication and weather forecasting research satellites. Today, spacecraft have a great influence on our day-to-day lives and have become a fundamental part of societies' critical infrastructure.

VEGA does not build satellites. Our work is focused on designing the Space programmes, and developing and operating the ground infrastructure to ensure that the Space missions meet their objectives.

Our heritage is in the institutional Space market in Europe, primarily with the European Space Agency (ESA), EUMETSAT and national Space Agencies such as the German DLR. In particular, VEGA's relationship with ESA has allowed us to gain experience in all types of Space programmes.

Increasingly, VEGA is contributing to the exploitation of Space assets, through the development of applications for other markets. We are a shareholder in the Centre for Satellite Navigation in Hessen (CESAH) and fully involved in ESA’s drive to support innovation through the use of Space products. Increasingly, VEGA is becoming involved in commercial Space programmes in and outside Europe and in the use of satellites to help increase our security.

From our office in Darmstadt, VEGA has been serving the Space industry since 1978. To find out more about VEGA's Space activities world-wide, please visit www.vegaspace.eu.
