Systems and Software Engineering

When a spacecraft lifts off from its launch
pad, many years of effort have already been invested by a large
team of people from many different disciplines. They have all been
working towards the moment when their satellite is ready to start
its journey. For VEGA, this is the halfway point in the systems
engineering cycle – the point when the concept has been
implemented, and operations are about to start. Systems, people and
processes have to be ready to do their jobs. You only get one
chance to get it right!
VEGA’s roots are in the Space industry. Our
company’s first contract was awarded by the European Space Agency
in 1978, to provide systems engineering support. In the last 30
years, we have built up very considerable experience in systems and
software engineering in the Space domain and now apply the same
high standards to similar work in our other markets.
Our systems engineering capabilities allow us
to carry out feasibility studies and trade-off analyses,
requirements engineering, mission critical systems design,
definition of the concept of operations, operations preparation,
communications and network engineering and procurement support.
This is underpinned by a quality software
engineering capability. For VEGA, Software Engineering is more than
just software development – we understand the key principles in how
best to utilise software in complex and technology-advanced
systems. This includes lifecycle concepts, the role of standards,
requirements capture, design, development, integration, test,
deployment, operation, maintenance and evolution.
Today, we apply our systems and software
engineering expertise in high-technology markets where innovation,
quality and good practices are fundamental to success.
