Technical Manager – Image Processing System Development  [J 1997]

VEGA has been selected as Prime Contractor for the development of a complex, de-centralized software system to support ESA’s Sentinel-3 earth observation satellite. VEGA is seeking to appoint a Technical Manager to oversee the implementation of the proposed technical solution and to support the Project Manager in dealings with both client and sub-contractors.

 

 

Key objectives of this position include

  • Coordinate the VEGA Consortium at technical level
  • Ensure quality and performance of the technical solution meets requirements
  • Provide support to the Project Manager in all technical areas, including interfacing with the customer and with the subcontractors for all technical issues

 

 

Responsibilities / Duties

  • Supervision of the system engineering of the project
  • Leading the integrated project team (technical steering group composed of VEGA staff and representatives of the subcontractors working remotely)
  • Interfacing to the subcontractors at technical level
  • Interfacing to the customer at technical level
  • Management and acceptance of Customer Furnished Items
  • Review and approval of technical documentation produced by the subcontractors
  • Requirements management
  • Assessment of subcontractors reports
  • Coordinating regular teleconference with the subcontractors
  • Attending review and progress meetings with the customer
  • Acceptance of subcontractor deliverables

 

 

Qualifications / Experience

  • A degree in computer science, physics, mathematics, or equivalent
  • Experience with high performance distributed data processing systems based on data driven techniques

 

 

Essential Skills

  • System Engineering for large data processing systems
  • Requirement Engineering
  • Understanding of hardware configuration based on virtual machines
  • Integration and testing activities (review of test plans)
  • Good command of the English language

 

 

Desirable Skills

  • Knowledge of ESA’s ECSS standards applicable to Ground Segment development
  • Design with UML and CASE tools
  • Knowledge of LINUX software package and tools
  • Understanding of Payload Data Ground Segment architecture
  • Understanding of space sensors data processing
  • Experience in space industry
  • Experience with DOORS
